Citizen Requests and Code Enforcement

The City of Kearney has made a concerted effort over the last three years to gain input from citizens.  We began in 2008 with Access Kearney.  This service allows citizens to report issues regarding code enforcement - such as property maintenance, abandoned vehicles, and loose dogs - through a variety of methods.  Citizens can call the code enforcement office, drop by City Hall, write a letter or email, or use the Access Kearney link on our website to report issues.  The code enforcement office will create a case, and for the first time, citizens can check the status of their request.  Citizens also have the opportunity to submit anonymously.   We feel this has been a success: over 1688 cases were submitted in 2010, and currently 97% have been resolved.

Introduction

Welcome to the blog for the Kearney City Manager.  I am Michael W. Morgan, and I would like to use this forum to provide citizens with information, tips, and opportunities for suggestions regarding City government.  It is my goal to provide updates at least weekly and to respond to feedback received in a timely manner.

The format will be concise, but I encourage questions and urge anyone who is interested in learning more about any topic to contact me at cityofkearney@kearneygov.org.  This blog is a continuation of an effort to inform the public about what the City is doing, and to solicit suggestions and comments. I look forward to hearing from you.
